I still use a Nikon CoolScan 4000 scanner. Nikon's software, of course, is no longer supported by the latest Mac OS. I now use Vuescan by Hamrick Software to run my scanner. Neat no longer supports their scanners or drivers but, in some cases, you can manually delete the old driver, install the new one and authenticate it and your copy of Paperless may work. - Run a VM manager, like Parallels or VMware, to create and use a VM of High Sierra, when you want to use this scanner.
